Department of Health Policy and Management

The Department of Health Policy and Management, the former name was TrainingCenter for Health Management, was established in 1985, which is one of the earliest established institutions engaged in higher education training and researches on Health Management in China. The Department became one of the firstly established Master Degree Stations for Social Medicine and Health Management in China in 1987. In 1999, approved by Degree Committee of State Council, the Department became the Doctoral Station for Social Medicine and Health Management, the subject category was Health Management. At present, there are 5 divisions in the Department，namely, Health Management, Health Economics, Health Law, Hospital Management and Social Medicine. Professor Yu-De CHEN is the Emeritus Director and Professor Ming WU is the Director of the Department.

Teaching
There are undergraduate, graduate and doctor students in Social Medicine and Health Management and post-doctoral program in the Department of Health Policy and Management. Since the Department established, 92 MS have graduated. Now, there are 47 master’s and 6 doctoral candidates. More than 10 persons coming from international and national universities and institutes are being as advanced visiting scholars. Moreover, we held more than 10 Master degree course workshops for officers coming from health bureaus, several training course seminars for trainers, management personnel from different kinds of health facilities at different level and other short-term training course for health management personnel.

Courses for graduate students: Health Management, Health Economics, Social Medicine, Health Law, Hospital Management, Management Principle, Organization Behavior, Econometrics, Health Politics, Hospital Brand and Service Marketing, Theory and Policy of Medical Security System.
Scientific Research
The Department of Health Policy and Management has undertaken and competed dozens of advanced research projects sponsored by National Key Research Programs, Science Research Foundation of MOH, International Organizations, Toyota Foundation and Kellogg Foundation. We also acquired dozens of research projects from MOH and other ministries by public bidding or commitment. In addition, there are more than hundreds projects in the Department projects from local health bureaus and other department or institutions. The major research fields include health policy analysis, community health service, primary health care, health service survey, medical security system in urban and rural area, hospital management, public health management, health human resource management, health project management, health economic evaluation, health law and health administration execution. Lots of faculties of the Department took part in the investigation and policy making for many health policies, and often provided suggestions on health policy for different fields and different level government as consultants. Moreover, the Department also provides technical and policy consultant and design and marketing services for all kinds of health sectors, health insurance companies and pharmaceutical enterprises on health management, health economics and health law. Some faculties have become the members of the professional specialist committee for MOH, some Departments of MOH, local government and National Center of Disease Control. They also serve as advanced management consultants for several large- scale hospitals.
